With the aid of hither to unused documents in the archives of the French and German Foreign Ministries and in the French Army Archive, the author attempts to find out whether Chiang Kai-shek triggered the Fujian Rebellion. Litten takes a critical look at the study of this rebellion by Lloyd Eastman. Litten believes the responsibility of Chiang for triggering this rebellion.
