Die Entstehung, Entwicklung und Struktur von Civic Organizations und deren Verhältnis zu Governmental Organizations in VietnamJörg Wischermann

For many years it was quite common for American and European political scientists to analyze the Vietnamese political system in that they presupposed a mono‐organizational mode of state‐society relations and used an appropriate model for such. Quite obviously such models are not or are no longer appropriate, since current social research indicates that a variety of changes are underway in Viet Nam. This article would like to offer some empirical evidence for the thesis that a remarkable diversification of social, political, and economic practices has taken place during the last 10 to 15 years in Viet Nam, leading to an impressive variety of different types of what we call civic organizations. In spring 2000 our research team identified more than 700 civic organizations in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City. In summer 2000 we interviewed 257 representatives of different types of civic organizations and in spring 2001 we carried out additional in‐depth‐interviews with 50 selected representatives of such organizations. In this paper selected findings of this survey, which was started in July 1999 and ended in spring 2002, are presented.
