Germany-China Trade: An Empirical AssessmentErika Platte
ASIEN – Nr. 42 (1992) pp. 66–79
This article adopts quantitative methods to assess the performance of commodity trade between Germany and the People’s Republic of China in 1975-85. A high degree of complementarity in the two countries‘ economic structures prevailed as a result of markedly different resource endowments. Even so, bilateral trade shares remained below both countries‘ world trade shares, and the intensity of two-way trade declined over time. The potential for further expansion appears to be limited.
