When the lease agreement between China and Britain expires on 30th June 1997, Hong Kong will cease to exist as a British Crown Colony. The article analyzes the changes in the political situation of China since 1969 and looks ahead over the next 14 years at the likely political course of China especially within the context of its relations with Britain and her Crown Colony.
