‚Adaption of Expression Law‘ was proclaimed in Myanmar on 18th June 1989. By this law, the English version Union of Burma was changed into Union of Myanmar. Instead of Burmese language and literature we now have Myanmar language and literature. The English name Rangoon is now known as Yangon. The author discusses the historical, cultural and political reasons why Burma has been renamed Myanmar in English.
