CfA: Lecturer in Japanese Language6.3.2026 {en}
The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Washington University in St. Louis invites applications for a full-time teaching-track position in Japanese language at the rank of Lecturer to begin in Fall 2026. The initial term of the appointment will be for one year, with renewal contingent upon performance.
Responsibilities include teaching and co-teaching all levels of modern Japanese language, and developing teaching materials for the language program, with a proficiency-oriented communicative approach. Participation in organizing and promoting co-curricular activities and events is expected.
Qualifications
Candidates for the position must have a minimum of an M.A., with strong preference for a Ph.D., in Japanese linguistics, second-language acquisition or a related field by the time of appointment. Requirements include a minimum of two years of college teaching experience, native or near-native proficiency in Japanese and English, and evidence of on-going commitment to language teaching.
