East Asian Studies Postgraduate Conference
We are happy to announce that on June 22-23, 2026, the Department of East Asian Studies at the University of Cambridge will be holding its inaugural East Asian Studies Postgraduate Conference. The conference is exclusively aimed toward Masters and PhD students who are conducting research relating to East Asian Studies.
2026 Conference Theme: “Conversing Across East Asia”
“Conversing Across East Asia” invites participants to reconsider East Asian studies by foregrounding the processes through which the region has been imagined and transformed. Rather than accepting the presupposed boundaries within East Asia as a fixed, this theme asks: What is East Asia, and how do we find it? We encourage papers relating to Chinese, Japanese, and Korean Studies that engage with national, regional, or global topics. By bringing together young scholars whose work crosses linguistic, temporal, and regional lines, the conference aims to set a foundation for future interdisciplinary academic exchange across East Asian Studies. Come join us in Cambridge for an exciting two days dedicated to exploring the interconnections that shape East Asia, both its past and its present.
Submissions
We welcome submissions in a variety of fields. All papers will be considered, regardless of disciplinary background, as long as they are relevant to the study of East Asia. We encourage all aspiring researchers currently enrolled in a Masters or PhD program to apply.

Potential Funding
The organizing committee may be able to provide limited, need-based financial support for travel to Cambridge for this event. Funding will be considered following the submission deadline on a case-by-case basis. No funding is guaranteed.
