The convenors are pleased to host the zoom talks by the recipients of the 20th Century Japan Research Award (2025) at the University of Maryland.
- Monday, April 6, at 7-8:15pm EDT – Talks by Mariko Azuma (Ph.D Candidate at Duke) and Yuki Hoshino (Ph.D Candidate at Stanford). Their talk titles are „Hotel Afterlives: The Visual Culture of Requisitioned Hotels During the Allied Occupation of Japan“ (Mariko Azuma) and „So Obviously Censored: Occupation-era Urban Maps of Osaka“ (Yuki Hoshino).
- Monday, April 13, at 3-4:15pm EDT – Talk by Dr. Mire Koikari (Professor at University of Hawai’i at Manoa). Her talk title is „Manning the Ocean: Kaikoku Kenji (海国健児), Imperial Naval Academy, and Japan’s Transpacific Seascape.„
