Europäische Ansätze einer wirtschaftswissenschaftlichen Asienforschung – Entwicklungen und Probleme –Beate Reszat
ASIEN – Nr. 76 (2000) pp. 20–28
In economics, among all regions world-wide, Asia has received the greatest attention. For many years, economists concentrated on explaining the Asian „economic miracle“. Then, in the 1990s, in the course of the Asian crisis their focus shifted towards an analysis of crisis causes and crisis prevention. The following article stresses three aspects in European economic research on Asia. The first is the treatment of the region in economic research in general and in European research in particular. The second is how the region’s greatest economic power, Japan, is covered and which are the dominant topics in this context. The last section draws the attention to the role of information, and the difficulties to find sources and materials, and describes one promising approach to overcome many of these difficulties in the not too distant future.
