The author briefly discusses the increasingly deepseated problems faced by New Zealand in respect of its economy, closer economic and political relation between this country and Australia. He deals with New Zealand’s role in the South Pacific Forum, its attitudes to the law of the Sea and Antarctica among other issues. While New Zealand remains firmly attached to the ANZUS, doubts have increased in New Zealand as to whether membership in this alliance can be characterized as constituting the cornerstone of its foreign policy.
