The International Workshop on “Street Vending and the Dynamics of Modern Urbanization” took place in Frankfurt am Main from 23 to 24 November 2018, hosted by Goethe University Frankfurt. The event was organized by Ms. Ryanne Flock (Goethe University Frankfurt) and Dr. Marius Meinhof (University of Bielefeld), and was kindly supported by the Interdisciplinary Centre for East Asian Studies (IZO) and the Association of Friends and Supporters of Goethe University Frankfurt (VFF).

The presenters came from both the Global North and the Global South to share their research on street vending from various perspectives, including discourses on modernity and urbanization, urban governance and spatial negotiations, new technologies and the emergence of smart cities, and the relationship between globalization and localization.
