CfP: GRAA Works-in-Progress Series Spring 202628.11.2025 {en}

The Collective on Gender, Religion, and the Arts of Asia (GRAA) invites presentation proposals for its third works-in-progress series, to take place in the spring of 2026.

First launched in 2023, this monthly, virtual workshop provides a platform for PhD candidates, early-career researchers, and established scholars to share ongoing research on gender as it relates to the visual and material culture of Asia, from any time period. Previous presentations have explored topics such as gendered modes of representation, how artists have challenged visual conventions and societal constraints, female patronage, the paradoxes of commemoration, and women’s agency as expressed materially.

Each virtual, hour-long Zoom meeting of the workshop consists of a 30-minute presentation followed by feedback from an outside discussant and a Q&A session.

To apply, please fill out this Google form with your paper title, a 250-word abstract, and a short biography by 11:59 PM on Tuesday, December 23rd, 2025. Accepted speakers will be announced by December 31st, and the full schedule will be circulated shortly thereafter.

More information about the Collective and its previous events can be found on our website. Speaker bios and paper abstracts from previous series can be found here. Should you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us at Collective.GRAA[at]gmail.com. We look forward to hearing from you!
