Indigenous Youth Movements in Taiwan | ISDG Online Panel8.11.2026 {en}
Mittwoch, 25. November, 11:00 AM
Taiwan is home to diverse Indigenous Peoples whose histories and cultures long predate the modern state. Since the emergence of Taiwan’s contemporary Indigenous movement in the 1980s, activism has encompassed struggles for recognition, land rights and self-determination, alongside efforts to revitalise Indigenous languages, cultural practices and identities.
This webinar brings together four Indigenous youth activists from Taiwan to share their experiences of cultural revitalisation, community organising and political advocacy, exploring how younger generations are shaping the future of Indigenous communities.
Speakers:
- Kaisanan Ahuan (Wang Shang Yi) | Taokas — Chair of the Asia Indigenous Youth Platform and advocate for Plains Indigenous recognition and cultural revitalisation.
- Hanako Purapuran | Pinuyumayan — Music producer and cultural organiser exploring Indigenous identity and language revitalisation through contemporary music.
- Lici Talavan (Wan Ying Sui) | Siraya — Anthropologist, writer and cultural activist working on Siraya language revitalisation and cultural heritage.
- Yabung Haning (Wu Ya-wen) | Truku — Indigenous rights activist and community organiser advocating for social welfare, community health and Indigenous long-term care.
