Journal of Transcultural Studies online symposium9.10.2026 {en}
The Journal of Transcultural Studies invites you to a virtual symposium, celebrating fifteen years since its inauguration. Four scholars will bring together wide-ranging case studies and disciplinary approaches to reflect critically on the process of transculturation: the constitution and transformation of cultural, social, and regional formations through extensive contacts with other regions and cultures.
The symposium will be held on Friday 30 October, 2:30–5:30pm (Central European Time). Attendees can join virtually through the following link: https://heiconf.uni-heidelberg.de/y9rd-777j-ddfm-f74q (no pre-registration required). Each talk will be followed by a brief public Q&A. The programme is as follows, in European Central Time:

3pm: Nuwan Herath (University of Kentucky), “The Monastery as a Transcultural Space: Sri Lankan Buddhist Monasteries in the United States.”
3:30pm: Pause.

4:30pm: Alexander McKinley (Loyola University Chicago), “The Tools of Ritual: Metamorphic Mythic Stratigraphy in Sri Lanka.”
