Call for Applications for a tenure-track Japanese Teacher position at the Zvi Yavetz School of History and Regional Studies at Tel Aviv University

The Zvi Yavetz School of History and Regional Studies and the Department of East Asian Studies at Tel Aviv University invite applications for a tenure-track Japanese language teaching position. The position is open to outstanding researchers and scholars specializing in Japanese language and culture.
The position is open to candidates who hold a PhD degree or who will be eligible to receive the degree before the start date of the appointment (October 2026).
Position Requirements:
- Experience in teaching academic level classes of Japanese language and literature.
- The position’s responsibilities include teaching introductory and advanced Japanese language and reading courses.
- Very high competence in Japanese language is necessary.
- Knowledge and ability to teach Classical Japanese will be an advantage.
- Active contribution to the academic community within and beyond the department.
This is a teaching tenure-track position, which may lead to a tenured appointment following the probationary period. Salary and conditions will conform to Tel Aviv University regulations. Appointment procedures will be carried out in accordance with the rules and regulations of Tel Aviv University, and are subject to the approval of the university authorities.
Start Date: October 2026, pending university approval, which will be communicated to the selected candidate upon appointment.

- A cover letter outlining academic background, teaching and administrative experience (up to 2 pages).
- An explanation of interest in being at Tel Aviv University and living in Israel.
- A detailed curriculum vitae.
- A list of several advanced language and reading classes/seminars that she/he can teach, with one detailed syllabus.

Candidates who advance to the second stage of evaluation will be asked to arrange for three letters of reference from senior scholars to be sent on short notice directly to the email address above. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interviews and might be asked to teach a short segment of a sample class.
The position is open to all candidates. The appointment will be based on the candidate’s qualifications and the School of History and Regional Studies’ needs. The Faculty of Humanities, and Tel Aviv University are not obligated to appoint any of the candidates who apply for this position. The School of History and Regional Studies reserves the right to independently seek additional candidates for consideration.
